On Sunday, about 11:20 p.m., an officer observed a Chevrolet Caprice failing to maintain lane in the area of North Expressway and Spalding Street. The officer followed the car as it turned on Spalding, then Flynt streets, where the officer activated his lights.
The car slowed down and eventually came to a stop in the Home Depot parking lot. The officer made contact with the driver and reportedly observed what appeared to be marijuana buds in his lap on the floorboards of the car.
The officer also could reportedly smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver then reportedly began coughing and gagging and spitting out more marijuana.
The driver was then pulled out of the vehicle and placed in hand restraints. He was then told to spit out the rest of the marijuana that was in his mouth, which he reportedly did, spitting out a mouthful in the parking lot.
The driver, identified as Rogerick Stargill, 38, of 307 Ashley Trail, Griffin, was then searched and secured in the patrol car. The officer collected as much of the marijuana as he could from the vehicle and off the parking lot.
A check of Stargill reportedly came back with a suspended license. He was transported to headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, issued citations for failure to maintain lane, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, and driving with a suspended license. He was given bond and bonded out.
