Comments (0)Plenty of activities are on tap for the 39th annual Barnesville Buggy Days beginning tonight, where the school stadium is the place to be for Kids’ Night and the Almost Anything Goes Games.
There will be games, piñatas and horse rides for children from 5-6:30 p.m. The Almost Anything Goes Games will include the threelegged race, sack relay and water balloon toss. Admission for spectators is $2.
The annual street dance will be held Friday, Sept. 14 at the Ritz Park Amphitheater at 7 p.m. Them Morris Boys, Commotion and DJ Nay Nay will open for Contagious, the headliners. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10. Children 10 and under are admitted free.
Saturday, Sept. 15 begins with the 35th annual Buggython Road Race at 8 a.m. with proceeds to the local schools. Run or walk in the annual Buggython 10K or 5K Road Race, or the two mile Fun Walk.
The cost is $18 for adults, $15 for 12 years and under and $10 for the two mile walk, including snacks and T-shirts. There will be overall and age awards for runners. Parking will be available at Summers Field for participants.
Late registration and packet pickup will be at 7 a.m., with day of race entries costing $20 for adults, $17 for children and $10 for the walk. All races begin at 8 a.m.
beginning at the Gordon College athletic parking lot at the corner of College Drive and Highlander Way. For information call Jeremy Hawkins at 770-358-8652 at the middle school.
There will be 71 vendors selling handmade items on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Buggies will be on display outdoors and in the Old Jail Museum. Food will be available from 19 civic clubs, churches and other organizations at the food court. Local merchants offer a variety of wares.
The parade, featuring buggies, floats, horses and civic groups, begins at 2 p.m. led by Grand Marshals and Outstanding Citizens of the Year Missy Kendrick and Amanda Rose. From Summers Field, the parade will make its way downtown onto Main Street.
There will be local marching bands, dancers and Shriners.
There will be an antique car display – some cars will be in the parade – and the Buggy Blast kids park where children may purchase a wristband for $10.
Each wristband is good for an entire day of unlimited games and activities.
Live music on the entertainment stage includes the Kim Ozier Studio of Dance, Kids in Motion, Pike Junior Players, Dixieland Dulcimers and The Big John and Chevy Show. The train depot will hold works of art from local Lamar County citizens.
