A statewide manhunt is underway for two prisoners who escaped from the Upson County Jail Saturday morning. Sheriff Don Peacock said Monday morning that they know a possible area of the state that the pair may be headed toward and that the U.S Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force is assisting in the search.
Peacock said the escape occurred when trash at the jail was being taken outside.
“They (jail staff) were taking the trash out and the guard just didn’t shut the door in time, and they just snuck out behind him,” said Peacock. “”We’re at fault here. What can I say? We’re doing our best to get them back, and we’ll be making some changes here at the jail to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
